Men's tennis ends road weekend at Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The UC Davis men's tennis concludes their three-match road weekend in Washington on Sunday afternoon after facing a 4-1 defeat by Gonzaga's team at The Stevens Tennis Center in Spokane, Wash.

After the competition weekend, the Aggies are now 2-7 overall, while the Bulldogs increase their undefeated record to 6-0.

Beginning the dual match with doubles play, the Aggies showed high hopes of success on the court after sealing the doubles point early on with back-to-back match victories. The first win came from Aggie partners Jonathan Star and Chethan Swanson, who defeated Gonzaga's Simon Homedes Dualde and Hunter Egger, 6-4, while the second came from David Goulak and Tommy Lam's matchup against the Bulldogs' Kyle Everly and Vincent Rettke.

After the doubles lead, the UC Davis men's tennis team saw an end to their scoring as Gonzaga responded back by sweeping the the singles competition to reach the four-point mark and secure their 4-1 victory over the Aggies.

The UC Davis men's tennis team returns to action next weekend to host three matches at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. On Saturday (Feb. 17), the Aggies are scheduled to have Sonoma State at 10 a.m., followed by Saint Mary's at 2 p.m. On Sunday (Feb. 18), UC Davis will welcome Santa Clara to campus for a 1 p.m. dual match before rounding out their competition weekend.

Support the UC Davis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Yolo County SPCA during the month of February as the Aggies hold their 11th annual coin drive at all home events. For the fourth year in a row, Big West Conference institutions will donate 100 percent of the funds raised to their designated charities, with the top three fundraising SAAC's receiving a cash prize toward their SAAC budget. Over the last 10 years, conference members have combined to raise nearly $197,000.
